Stars: 4.5/5
Location: Sierra Nevada Mountains, California
Sub-genre: Exploration, history, geography
Publication Date: 2022
Nice mix of travel writing, memoir, history, a dash of geology, and beautiful photos. There were many insightful vignettes about different aspects of the history of the range, including early explorations, indigenous culture, and history of names, but much of this book is also Robinson’s own backpacking stories.
While I especially appreciated the stories because I was living near the Sierra Nevada when I read it, the book should appeal to anyone who wants to learn about this important American mountain range or just get lost in an author’s love of a place. Should be on every mountain-lovers and Californian’s shelf.
