Book Review: Turn Left at Lenin’s Statue: Travels in Central Asia by Fabrizio Soggetto

Stars: 3.5/5

Location: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China

Sub-genre: Travelogue

Publication Date: 2020

A collection of fun and meaningful vignettes of places few Westerners are familiar with (i.e. most of Central Asia). There are gems of knowledge and description to be found, especially for readers not familiar with the region, as I was. The map at the beginning should definitely be referenced a lot! The book is a combination of many trips, which made it feel like it jumped around a bit for me, zooming into travel anecdotes before the reader has a chance to place themselves on a map. But a worthwhile effort that will do what the best travel books do: expand your horizons, teach you something new, and make you long to be on the road again yourself.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
