Bill Bryson knows how to turn a phrase, that is for certain and parts of Neither Here Nor There made me laugh out loud. However, there were just too many repetitive descriptions of Bryson’s dinners with too much beer and its after effects to make this a truly great travel book. I wish he had tried to add more characters helping him understand where he was instead of just his cursory looks at the countries he passed through.
Still a somewhat enjoyable read but lacked the depth of Notes from a Small Island‘ and other Bryson classics.
